Mastering Your Time

Having enough time in the day to get all of our tasks, assignments and chores done can be a great challenge. We are bombarded with instant messages, wireless phone calls, tons of emails and a steady stream of information from the internet. Oftentimes, because our society has conditioned itself to have instantaneous responses and results, we feel like we have to get everything done all at once or we are failures.

What do you do when you can’t keep up the pace with all the constant demands on your time and attention? The answer is: you have to learn to make good use of your time. Strategize your day! This does not include watching television. If you lack energy, reevaluate your diet and exercise habits.

The following are suggestions to aid you in mastering your time:

I. Make a daily reminder list of things you need to do. Some people think that if you write things down, it’s a sign that you’re getting old. Not so! By writing things down, you are able to free your mind of “thought clutter” and strategize your day. There are several ways to make a reminder list depending on what works best for you:

a. planner/piece of paper/sticky notes
b. electronic devices (too many to name)
c. Outlook-task/calendar/flags
d. dry erase board

II. If you’re having difficulties managing your time, estimate the time you think it will take for you to complete each task, assignment or chore; write down the latest acceptable deadline to get each task done. Take notes on how long it actually took you to complete each assignment and what caused the difference. Continue to do this until you’re able to develop the skill of estimating time in your head. Practice makes perfect!

III. Take advantage of small blocks of time rather than waiting for large amounts of time. If you have 5 minutes here, 20 minutes there, you can complete several items on your task list. Anxiety results from looking at the whole picture, constantly replaying in our head all the things you have to get done. Break your assignments down into small attainable parts and strategize your day. Also, handling small tasks are great when you need a change in pace.

IV. Take a couple of minutes each morning to strategize your tasks according to priority. Take a few minutes each night to plan your tasks for the next day.

If you start by following these simple suggestions, you’ll be well on your way to mastering your time.

How to save your 2007 Ms Word document to open in Office 2003

Have you ever found yourself receiving a complain that someone is unable to open an MSWORD document you sent because it is saved in .docx extension (MSWORD 2007) instead of the usual .doc extension (MSWORD 2003 format) especially when you send them an attachment containing MSWORD file or though another means.

Below are few steps to follow to save your document so that it can be opened without any difficulty.

This can be done in two ways;

One is to setup your save option to always save in 2003 format any time you save your document.

To do this, on your MSWORD 2007 window, click on office button (located at the top left corner of your window),then click on word options , then go to save, locate ‘save files in this format’, by default it is ‘Word Document’ locate the drop down arrow and select ‘Word 97-2003 Document. Click on Ok.

Using this method will make your default save format to be in .doc extention anytime you save your work.

Another option is to set the .doc extention to be effective only when you select it as you are saving your document.

To do this, after completing your work and you want to save, instead of using save option, use Save As,then point to ‘ Save in Word 97-2003 format’,click on it and give the file a name, then click save.

Your document is now saved in .doc extention meaning that it can open in either MSword 2007 or 2003.

Note: Remember this guide is for MSWord 2007 users only.

How to share your internet connection with another PC.

I was using my USB internet modem on my laptop and a friend of mine came and needed to browse, so he said to me when I finish, that he will like to use my laptop to browse. I said no need for that, since you have your laptop we can both use the same modem conveniently, I did shared the network and we were enjoying our browsing simultaneously.
Since I know many people will like to enjoy such, I decided to outline the steps to activate both laptops to use same connection.

Note: Your laptop must be WIFI enabled for you to do this. Although it can be done with a Bluetooth Connection, but the steps I am outlining is for WIFI.

Turn on the WIFI of both laptops. Connect your internet modem to receive network.(You cannot share network unless you do this)

Go to Open Network and Sharing Centre either through the Control Panel or by double clicking the network icon on the taskbar and you will be presented with this window.

3. Click on ‘ Setup a new connection or network’

Click on ‘Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network’

Click on Next

On the screen below, you are required to choose a network name and security name. It is recommended that you give network a key after choosing your network type. You can use the defualt type which is ‘WPA2 Personal’, insert a code that will serve as your security code in the box and the key must be 8letters and above. There is another security type which is ‘No Authetication’, using this will make your network open to anyone that has is WIFI enabled. To avoid this always use the first option which is WPA2 Personal. You can decide to hide characters (this will make the key invisible) or also save the network for next use. After that click on next.

Click next and you will get a message telling you the system is sharing your network, after that, click ‘Turn on internet connection sharing’ . Another message will come telling the network is now shared. Then on your friends laptop,click on the network icon and you will get a window like below showing you the available network.

Click on the name of the network created on the other laptop and click Connect, you will be prompted to enter the security that was created on the default laptop, enter the key and wait for seconds for the identification process to complete and once that is completed, the connection will be established and you can now browse on both laptops at same time.

It is a simple as that.

Production technology
Pet bottles plant includes blow moulding machine to produce pre-forms. The pre-forms are later blown into required pet bottles sizes and shapes, depending on the requirement of the end users and the kind of mould used.

To set up the project, the initial step is the preparation of bankable feasibility study showing the technical, financial and market information about the project. This can be provided for serious minded investors. Other procedures include plant and machinery acquisition and installation, acquisition of appropriate accommodation, procurement of utility items and recruitment of appropriate personnel.

India’s $35 tablet is here, for real. Called Aakash, costs $60

India’s much-hyped $35 tablet for students is a reality. But, like every other super-cheap education project, the price has jumped – though in this case only to Rs 2,999 ($60). It turns out that the Aakash is actually an Ubislate 7 from Datawind (makers of the Pocketsurfer). Beneath the 7-inch 800 x 480 resistive touchscreen is a 366MHz Connexant CPU, 256MB of RAM and 2GB of storage (expandable via microSD) running Froyo and the Getjar market on top. The battery life is rated for a rather short three hours, and much less if you want to play HD video. In addition to the 802.11 a/b/g WiFi chip, you also get a GPRS modem to stay connected in rural areas. We wish India’s HRD Minster Kapil Sibal’s pet project all the best and if you want to see the device held snugly inside a Rs 300 ($7) keyboard folio, check out the picture after the break.

How to insert or remove a border using Microsoft Word 2007

In Microsoft Office Word 2007, borders can add interest and emphasis to various parts of your document. You can add borders to pages, text, tables and table cells, graphic objects, and pictures. You can add a border to any or all sides of each page in a document, to pages in a section, to the first page only, or to all pages except the first. You can add page borders in many line styles and colors, as well as a variety of graphical borders. You can set apart text from the rest of a document by adding borders. You can add borders to a table or individual table cell. You can add borders to drawing objects and pictures. You can change or format the border of an object in the same way that you change or format a line. Add a border Do one of the following: Add a border to a picture, a table, or text 1. Select the picture, table, or text that you want to apply a border to. To apply a border to specific table cells, select the cells, including the end-of-cell marks. NOTE Press CTRL+* to turn on Show/Hide paragraph marks and view the end-of-cell marks. 2. On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Background group, click Page Borders. 3. In the Borders and Shading dialog box, click the Borders tab, and then click one of the border options under Settings. 4. Select the style, color, and width of the border. 5. Do any of the following:  To place borders only on particular sides of the selected area, click Custom under Setting. A Business Plan, Do I need it?

Few days ago, I was discussing with a friend, she was complaining of how she is tired of her job. I was now asking her if she left her job what she will do. She said she has this idea of establishing a boutique where she will be selling ladies and kids wears. I said well, that is a good idea. I now asked her; do you have a business plan for this your idea? She said, what is a business plan; that her ideas and plans are in her head. I now told her it is a very big mistake to have your ideas in your head. It must be written down clearly so that it can be referred to from time to time, to help you monitor your growth and performance. What is a business plan? A business plan can simply mean a plan that works for a business to look ahead, allocate resources, focus on key points, and prepare for problems and opportunities. You can see all the things a business plan can, but it is unfortunate that many people think of business plan only when they are starting new (this is right) or when they want to apply for business loan but in addition, it helps a running business to monitor performance. From the definition, you can see that business plan is necessary even for a running business. What does a business plan consists of? It may contain a lot of things but the key things are the description of the business, the product or service, market forecasts, management team and financial analysis. Off the things listed as the component of a plan, the important thing is the cash analysis and specific implementation details. Cash flow is not all about profit, it involves the inflow and out flow of cash in the running of the business. Implementation details are the things that make things happen. They include, assigning responsibilities with dates and budgets, follow up, tracking of results etc. In summary, business plan is all about getting results and improving your company or business. Writing of business plan can be tasking for some people, but it isn’t much a difficult task. As a guide, below are the components of a business plan; a. Executive Summary- This is always written last mostly a page or two. b. Company Description: Business type, history, start-up plan etc. c. Product or service: What you are selling, ensure you focus on customer benefits. d. Market Analysis: What you know about your market, customer needs, where they are and how to reach them etc. e. Strategy and implementation: Management responsibilities with dates and budgets, you to have to be specific. f. Management Team: Background and key members of the team, details and personal strategies. g. Financial Plan: Profit and loss, cash flow, break-even analysis, balance sheet, ratios, assumptions etc. This order above is not how you must write your plan, but it is how it will appear as a finished document. Like I said earlier, the executive summary is always written last. You can see now that for every business, no matter how small, it is necessary to have a clear written down plan which must always be visited for revision in order to check your performance. Get your plan today on paper, and don’t say I have it in my head. Remember, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Now, this bomb was produced in Nigeria and yet many things are been imported from other countries into our country, can’t the skill be used to produced something that will be useful to humanity and better the lives of poor people instead of using it produce something that will waste lives.

Nigeria is blessed with talented and skilled people; please let it be put to good use. Let this ideas and skills be used to invent things that other countries will be eager to use. And in doing that Nigeria will be a better place for us all.

Setting Your Goals – Easier Said, Easily Done

The basics of setting a goal is an open secret known by top-caliber athletes, successful businessmen and businesswomen and all types of achievers in all the different fields. The basics of setting goals give you short-term and long-term motivation and focus. They help you set focus on the acquisition of required knowledge and help you to plan and organize your resources and your time so that you can get the best out of your life.

Setting clearly defined short term and long term goals will enable you to measure your progress and achieve personal satisfaction once you have successfully met your goals. Charting your progress will also enable you to actually see the stages of completion leading to the actual realization of your goals. This eliminates the feeling of a long and pointless grind towards achieving your goal. Your self-confidence and level of competence will also improve as you will be more aware of your capabilities as you complete or achieve your goals.

The basics of goal settings will involve deciding what you really want to do with your personal life and what short term and long term goals you need to achieve it. Then you have to break down goals into the smaller and manageable targets that you must complete in your way to achieving your lifetime targets. Once you have your list waste no time in tackling your goals.

A good way to have a manageable list is to have a daily and weekly set of goals. By doing this you will be always in the position of going towards you life plan goals. Everyday will give you the opportunity to fulfill a certain goal giving you the feeling of accomplishment.

Here are some pointers that should be taken into consideration in setting goals and achieving them.

Attitude plays a very big role in setting and achieving your goals. You must ask yourself if any part of you or your mind holding you back towards completing your simplest goals? If there are any part of your behavior that is being a hindrance or puts your plans into disarray? If you do have problems in these areas then the immediate thing to do is to address this problem. Solutions may include a visit to a doctor or psychiatrist to control your emotions.

Careers are made by good time management practice. Failing in a career is often attributed to bad time management. Careers require a lot from an individual which often makes the career the life of the individual. Plan how far do you want to go into your career.

Education is key in achieving your goals. If your goals require you to have a certain kind of degree or require a certain specialization or demand a certain skill to be developed, make plans in getting the appropriate education.

Your family should never be left out of your plans. If you are just starting out then you have to decide if you want to be a parent or when you want to be a parent. You also have to know if you really would be a good parent and how well would you relate to extended family members

Personal financial situations also play a major role in achieving your goals. Have a realistic goal on how much you really want to earn. You also must be able to create plans or stages by which you will be able to reach your earning potential.

Physically gifted individuals may be able to achieve sports related goals like being in the National Basketball association or National Football League. Determining your physical capabilities should be one of your priorities. Physical limitations could however be conquered with proper planning.

As the saying goes -’All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’, or something to that effect, is by all means true down to the last the letter. Giving yourself a little pleasure: should be included into your plans.

To start achieving your lifetime goals, set a quarter of a century plan, then break it down to 5 year plans then break it down again to 1 year plans, then 6 month plans then monthly plans, then weekly, then daily.

Then create a things-to-do list for the day.

Always review your plans and prepare for contingencies.

The basics of goal settings should not be so difficult once you get to be familiar with them.
