Today I want to write on something that has been a problem for laptop users. Many users complain that their battery runs down quickly as a result, they cannot work without electricity especially in my country where power has been a major issue.

Below you will find some tips that will help u preserve and prolong the life of your battery.

• There are many devices that are not used always e.g Bluetooth, WIFI, webcam etc. Don’t leave such devices on always; turn them off when they are not in use. It will be wise to also remove any USB device that is not in use.
• Avoid using the hard drive unnecessarily. For example if you are using Microsoft Word or any of the packages, and you set it to auto save your documents every 5 minutes, consider changing it to auto save say 10 or 15 minutes.
• We are all music lovers, and most times we are tempted to play our favorite CDs or DVDs while doing other work on the laptop. The truth is that the drive draws a lot of power while running, to avoid that, convert your music to Mp3 files and play them from the hard drive instead.
• Don’t use your laptop in an uncomfortable environment i.e. an environment where the temperature is high. Hot temperatures make the battery to discharge quickly.
• When running on battery, try as much to reduce the backlight of your screen using the power-control utilities (brightness, contrast), mostly found on the keyboard.
• There is no point using leaving all programs open when you are not using them, they all draw their power from the battery. So close up unused applications or programmes.
• There is always a belief that laptop should always be carried on the laps, or used while on the bed, or rug carpet. No matter the pleasure we derive from all these, they are not healthy for the life of your battery because they don’t allow proper air flow or circulation as a result causes overheating. So always use your laptop on a hard surface to allow air circulation.
• Standby and Hibernation serve different purposes, Standby keeps your laptop partially on while drawing some power from the battery while hibernation puts your laptop partially off and saves your last state of use without drawing power from the battery but enabling you to resume where you stop. So when leaving your laptop for just few minutes use standby but if you are leaving it for a longer time, make use of the hibernate function.
• Limit the graphic usage. If you will be doing much graphic works, consider using a graphic or video card.

If you apply these simple tips, you consciously extend the life of your laptop battery.

The above is an old and true saying. Many think that acquiring knowledge is expensive, time consuming and difficult, that is why many cannot devote some minutes, or sacrifice their pleasure to read and study. It is also sad to note that many graduates haven’t read anything meaningful ever since they left school. But when you analyze it critically, you will discover that ignorance actually cost more than education. The reason is that any knowledge you acquire has automatically become part of you and no one can take it away from you and as a result, it will save you unnecessary cost and expensive.

Many are actually paying for some services they could have solved themselves out of mere ignorance.

Let me explain with an example. Take the mobile phone for example which is the in-thing now. Virtually everyone has it. Every mobile phone comes with a user manual, but most people don’t bother trying to know what is written in the manual, all they are after is to make use of their phone. For example, the manual gives you instruction on how to prepare your mobile phone for first use, i.e. initial setup like charging etc. I visited a friend of mine that repairs mobile, and I was watching as people were coming with complains of one problem or the other with their mobile phone. I observed that many of the problems they are encountered with their mobile phone actually have the solution in the user manual. But because they are ignorant of that, they end up paying to my friend, and he smiles to the bank.

What point am I actually trying to make? My point is that you can actually save yourself some cost and unnecessary expenses just by getting yourself educated over little little things rather than being ignorant. Get into the habit of reading, why? “Readers they say are leaders”.

Get educated, though it cost you something, but it pays at the end.

iPhone is probably the most well-known Smartphone on the planet, and it can do a lot more than people commonly think. Sure, it can play some cute little games and browse the web, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Left a crucial file on your computer at home? Fear not, you can connect to your computer remotely via ‘Ignition’. You can manage and move files around, open programs and copy documents.

It runs on both PC’s and Macs and the app can control multiple computers at once. Be warned though – it’s not cheap coming in at $99 or £69 in the UK. Sure, it’s a powerful application but at that price I’d think twice. Still, a useful thing you can do, if you have the cash to spare, on your iPhone. I’ll just stick to remembering things!

There’s More than Just a Calculator

Finally, and this is a quick one; you can use the calculator on the iPhone for more than just the basics – turn it on its side and you’ll see a fully functioning scientific calculator.

It’s capable of all the standard things such as sine, cosine and tan rules. So if you forget your calculator next time you’re in the mathematics class, don’t fear, just use your phone!

Few days ago, I was in a computer typing center when a lady came in to have her document typed. She was so shivering and furious that it was showing all over her. I and other people there was wondering what her problem could be until when there was a little delay in attending to her. She screamed, almost about to cry that she doesn’t want any delay that her job is at stake because of the document she came to type, that any delay or mistake will result in her sack. As if that was not enough, her boss called her on phone and was asking about the progress of what she came to do, she answered in anger, after some time, the boss called again, called the third time, and the lady out of anger threw her phone on the floor. After some delay, she left in anger, almost crying. All of us in the shop started wondering and discussing about the incident and why somebody will want to kill herself or lose her joy and happiness because of her job.

I started meditating on the whole incident and was asking myself, what could be the reason behind such action. After some time of thinking, I came up with the following reasons.

• Lack of Skill: Some people that are employed in some establishment got in their without the required skill for the position they are occupying. Some people like that came in through what we call “man know man”. Such people are afraid to lose their because they know that they cannot get employed in another establishment, so they go out of their way to the detriment of their joy and happiness to keep their job.
• Fear: Fear of securing another employment can lead to the actions of the lady in the story above. With the current rate of unemployment, such people believe they can’t get another job opportunity, so they can put themselves under unnecessary pressure to secure their job.
• Lack of Self Discovery: Such a person doesn’t know her worth; she hasn’t discovered herself or identity. She believes her capability is limited to that job. She doesn’t know that even if she was sacked, that it will give her the opportunity to discover true self and know other things she can do.
• Lack of Pressure Management: one of the things that came to my mind again that could cause that reaction was inability to handle pressure. Pressures come in different ways, and the ability to handle them is a good measure of how strong and equipped you are to take up bigger responsibilities or handle a higher position. Her boss may likely be testing her to see how she will react and handle such pressure, but from my own assessment, she failed.

What do you do when you can’t keep up the pace with all the constant demands on your time and attention? The answer is: you have to learn to make good use of your time. Strategize your day! This does not include watching television. If you lack energy, reevaluate your diet and exercise habits.

The following are suggestions to aid you in mastering your time:

I. Make a daily reminder list of things you need to do. Some people think that if you write things down, it’s a sign that you’re getting old. Not so! By writing things down, you are able to free your mind of “thought clutter” and strategize your day. There are several ways to make a reminder list depending on what works best for you:

a. planner/piece of paper/sticky notes
b. electronic devices (too many to name)
c. Outlook-task/calendar/flags
d. dry erase board

II. If you’re having difficulties managing your time, estimate the time you think it will take for you to complete each task, assignment or chore; write down the latest acceptable deadline to get each task done. Take notes on how long it actually took you to complete each assignment and what caused the difference. Continue to do this until you’re able to develop the skill of estimating time in your head. Practice makes perfect!

III. Take advantage of small blocks of time rather than waiting for large amounts of time. If you have 5 minutes here, 20 minutes there, you can complete several items on your task list. Anxiety results from looking at the whole picture, constantly replaying in our head all the things you have to get done. Break your assignments down into small attainable parts and strategize your day. Also, handling small tasks are great when you need a change in pace.

IV. Take a couple of minutes each morning to strategize your tasks according to priority. Take a few minutes each night to plan your tasks for the next day.

If you start by following these simple suggestions, you’ll be well on your way to mastering your time.

Below are few steps to follow to save your document so that it can be opened without any difficulty.

This can be done in two ways;

One is to setup your save option to always save in 2003 format any time you save your document.

To do this, on your MSWORD 2007 window, click on office button (located at the top left corner of your window),then click on word options , then go to save, locate ‘save files in this format’, by default it is ‘Word Document’ locate the drop down arrow and select ‘Word 97-2003 Document. Click on Ok.

Using this method will make your default save format to be in .doc extention anytime you save your work.

Another option is to set the .doc extention to be effective only when you select it as you are saving your document.

To do this, after completing your work and you want to save, instead of using save option, use Save As,then point to ‘ Save in Word 97-2003 format’,click on it and give the file a name, then click save.

Your document is now saved in .doc extention meaning that it can open in either MSword 2007 or 2003.

Note: Remember this guide is for MSWord 2007 users only.

I was using my USB internet modem on my laptop and a friend of mine came and needed to browse, so he said to me when I finish, that he will like to use my laptop to browse. I said no need for that, since you have your laptop we can both use the same modem conveniently, I did shared the network and we were enjoying our browsing simultaneously.
Since I know many people will like to enjoy such, I decided to outline the steps to activate both laptops to use same connection.

Note: Your laptop must be WIFI enabled for you to do this. Although it can be done with a Bluetooth Connection, but the steps I am outlining is for WIFI.

Go to Open Network and Sharing Centre either through the Control Panel or by double clicking the network icon on the taskbar  and you will be presented with this window.

Click on ‘Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network’

It is a simple as that.

The demand for pet bottles is very high, as its consumption is in the range of 200 million per day in Nigeria. The plant will definitely enjoy good patronage as existing outfits now cannot meet demand of their patrons.

Production technology
Pet bottles plant includes blow moulding machine to produce pre-forms. The pre-forms are later blown into required pet bottles sizes and shapes, depending on the requirement of the end users and the kind of mould used.

To set up the project, the initial step is the preparation of bankable feasibility study showing the technical, financial and market information about the project.  This can be provided for serious minded investors. Other procedures include plant and machinery acquisition and installation, acquisition of appropriate accommodation, procurement of utility items and recruitment of appropriate personnel.
